Options: Life and Work After Spinal Cord Injury (1 Day)
After becoming spinal cord injured, the question “What happens next?” is one you are bound to ask as you look at where your future lies. You may want to return to your previous job, go back into education, retrain for a new career or even decide that a complete change of direction is what you need. Volunteering, part-time work or even taking up a new hobby that uses your talents and interests might be on the agenda for you. This training course will help you explore the various options for your life following injury, even if you’ve been injured for some time and are just beginning to want to make some changes, and equip you with the knowledge and confidence to move forward in the way you choose.
The first part of the day covers signposting to sources of benefit advice, support available in the workplace and advice on managing an impairment whilst at work, volunteering or in education.
The course then becomes an interactive ‘clinic’ where you’ll have a chance to use our unique career guidance software ’New Leaf’ which will help identify where your interests and skills lie and offers up suggestions for your future direction. You can also take the opportunity to discuss CVs, interview techniques and any specific issues or concerns you may have and we aim to book a local National Careers Adviser to attend each session to provide some one to one advice.
